Hong Kong is a city of contrasts that captivates gradually and wins the heart forever. It is customary to divide it into three parts: Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and New Territories. The university, where most of our studies took place, was located in the New Territories, closer to China. To see the island of Hong Kong, we traveled by subway, and moved around the island on foot. Upon arrival, the first thing that caught my eye was three things: unusually high humidity, skyscrapers that lived up to their name and the surrounding rich vegetation. The night view of the city is a separate topic for conversation. You can endlessly admire the magical atmosphere, when around a hundred majestic towering luminous skyscrapers rises.

This is not a place where you can get bored, everyone can find something for themselves and a place to their liking. Tired of the stone jungle? Street bars and cafes are always ready to meet you. Hong Kong has a bottomless market, lots of fun and endlessly beautiful places to explore and enjoy outdoor activities. In addition to a rich program of classes, a variety of activities and an abundance of entertainment, at the time of our stay in the city there were peaceful rallies against the new law related to China, which brought together two million people. There we felt what real patriotism was when our local friends did not sleep for two days and actively participated in rallies. I want to thank our Foundation for the fact that now I have the opportunity to develop and see the world. Special thanks to my university for interesting programs and for choosing me.

P.S if you want to see a mix from Asian New York, stone and ordinary jungle, to see the verge of poverty and insane wealth, and all in one territory, then Hong Kong is an ideal option for traveling.

I am glad to share my impressions from a two-month internship in Kusto Management Group, since it was a great experience and familiarity with absolutely new sphere and industry for me. I will not go that far telling you about the professional side of this practice, but will share my personal experience with you.

Walking along the corridor of my university in early May, I noticed sign on the bulletin board, that Erkin Tatishev announced selection for an internship in one of his companies. I decided to take part and in the end of the May participated in the contest. The competition was in the Foundation’s style – creative self-presentation. I took it really seriously and my presentation was treated as the most creative.

These two months of practice gave me a path from a simple worker to the office employee. Sometimes it was hard, I was tiring not only physically, but mentally too, since being on the field, where bad Internet and the same faces and atmosphere around you, during 30 days makes you feel exhausted. For me as Almaty citizen, local climate was kind of severe. Unbearable heat and infinite wind are not so comfortable for me. In spite of all these conditions, it was really useful to talk to local workers, to take a look at the life from their point of view. As one of workers said to me – “if you want to be an excellent manager, try to be an excellent worker first”.

Nonetheless, I took it all as a challenge to myself first of all. I knew that it should be so and will bring me big results later. As a result, it happened so, because everything that I faced on the field helped me in the office work, when it came to calculations.

Last two weeks of my internship, we were instructed to perform some task, something like a case, which aim was to decrease the rent price for binding. We had to prove that landlords overstate the rent price and long ago paid off. We had to prove it financially, because there is nothing that can beat numbers. We did all the calculations of their profit, expenses, including taxes for the next 10 years including amortization, knowingly making equipment prices analysis. Via calculating this, we showed that the price is really overstated and it really helped company in negotiations.

Generally, this internship was the best experience in my life, it gave me a lot and learned me to keep the pace and go on. I was madly glad, that I got a chance to become a part of this company, even if the term was only two months. Thanks to Kusto Management Group and Almaty Management University for such a tremendous opportunity!

Hello dear friends! My name is Sapabekov Amirkhan. I’m studying at KIMEP university with specialization of finance and holding full-paid scholarship of Yerzhan Tatishev Foundation. The summer of 2016 I’ve spent in USA by “Work&Travel” program. The trip left a bunch of impressions and emotions about the culture, the people and the country as a whole. This trip helped me to understand that the so-called “American Dream” can be carried anywhere. To reach it, it is only necessary diligence, patience, and commitment to your dream.

I lived and worked in the smallest state in America – Rhode Island, in a small town no one knows. For total immersion in the program I will describe you my normal working day. I worked three jobs. My day started with the awakening at five in the morning, washing, having a breakfast and going to work at MacDonalds, where I worked as a cashier. This was my second job. However, as elsewhere, my work functions were not limited to the standard customer service in terms of their order. Also, my duties included cooking and spills of coffee, tea and other beverages, the issuance of orders, cooking French fries, etc. Change began at 6 am and ended at one o’clock. Then I went to my primary job in a supermarket, which was across the road. In the supermarket I worked as an assistant manager in the department of «La Carte». It was the Department of finished products. On arrival there, I usually went to the home freezer and shipped on the truck frozen food that I prepared. In our department it was a bunch of ovens, grills, etc., where everything is actually prepared. Since we also were selling “fried chickens”, then harvesting of chicken was on me, too. They came plucked and frozen. They had to roll in flour, sprinkle with spices, etc. The work was not easy as it seems at first sight: there is a special recipe, and there is a whole scheme, so they have turned out the same juicy and crispy as in KFC. At the end of the shift, which ended at 9 pm, we had to wash all the dishes (because our washing machine was broken), to prepare all for tomorrow, sweep and wash the floors. The bus to the house was at 11 o’clock, so after work I was usually walking around the neighborhood waiting for the bus. At 11.30 I came home. Shower, dinner, talking to family on Skype – this is how the evening went. Then I felled asleep near two o’clock in the morning. Catching sports all my life, work was physically not so hard. Rather, it was hard mentally from the constant routine work day after day. Since the weekend paid more, I have worked over the weekend and asked the manager to put my legal holiday in the beginning of the working week. The third job was in the company of restoration and landscape design and I’ve worked there when I had days off at the other two jobs. But as the program is called «Work & Travel», in August, thinking that it is impossible to earn all money in the world, threw the third job and took fewer working hours in the remaining jobs. That’s how I spent my summer of “American worker”, as most of the country lives in this way.

In late August, a week before departure, I went to New York. This city of contrasts! Of course, the list of site visits included a standard list: Empire State Building, Central Park, the Museum of Natural History, and, of course, the Statue of Liberty. About the Statue another story: I have forgotten the important documents and was forced to go back to my staff that day, when I was scheduled to visit the Statue of Liberty. Well, on arrival back, it is usually not enough time to visit it. What I mean is: there is a sign, if you go there, you will no longer come back to the United States. So I was not a bit disappointed and I am sure that I will return to States many times! After all, it’s worth it! You will get invaluable experience from this trip, not mentioning the money you will earn. This summer, left an indelible impression in my mind. Moreover, it brought me together with fine people from different countries, who have become very close to me this summer. I have found friends and relatives all over the world: Russia, Serbia, Uzbekistan, Croatia, Romania, USA. Undoubtedly, this was the best summer of my life!

In February the weather in France is warm and a little bit windy, as well as in Almaty at this time, and also warmly and hospitably we were met by our French partners. No wonder they say that Frenchmen are lovely people: they like to kiss their guests on both cheeks very much. I arrived to Paris, and was convinced that it is really beautiful city, and I even remained alive – proverbs lie. Then more than once I had to be there and contemplate its sights there: Eiffel Tower, Chopin’s cemetery, the Triumphal Arch, Louvre, the well-known Notre Dame de Paris, also I have visited a flea market, the Chinese quarter, the coast of the Seine river and other.

My accepting university was located in Troyes, town which is situated in 100 kilometers to the east from Paris. The rector of university personally put first “brick” of “made in France” knowledge in students’ heads. Study process was easy for me – the knowledge of language and fundamental education in the native land made the business. We were trained in absolutely mixed groups, our team was a real “vinaigrette” from Spaniards, Chinese, French, Lebanese, Ukrainians, Russians, Norwegians, Finns and others therefore team working was very fascinating. There were only four Kazakh people, but we proudly carried the mission assigned to us, breaking stereotypes that we still live in yurtas. To say that the study process there is very cool means to tell nothing. Educational base is really strong, but Kazakhstan is a good competitor! My supervision showed that the French technique offers more practical material, than ours, but still it doesn’t give big advantage to a choice of the strongest one.

The trip to France cost the money left there. While being there I understood what is necessary for our market, our consumer. I have arrived with new ideas, took part in the program of social projects from Coca-Cola company and won a grant on 350 000 tenge with the project on realization of the children’s drawings. I am proud of the fact that my efforts invested in project were justified. The trip also took place thanks to my efforts, motivation and support from Fund and my trustees. I thank all for this amazing opportunity!

My name is Orazbek Azamat, I was born in Kyzylorda region, Zhanakorgan district, also there, in the native aul I went to the first grade. On holidays we, mischievous children, often walked and knew all the secret corners of the native village. When I successfully graduated from the first grade, I hurried to my uncle`s house, where I spent all my free time. Together with my contemporaries, we invented different games and often loafed near the plant, located not far from my home.

That day we walked for a long time despite the rain. One man, who was walking near, asked to look whether the cattle went or not. There was a transformer near us, and when I climbed on it, I was stricken by powerful jolt of electricity and flung away on ten meters. Earth has the property to absorb the electricity and in such cases it is necessary to dip a person into the earth. My uncle buried me up to the chest, and my arms left outside. Sometimes I think that if my arms have been buried, I would not have denied them. My relatives drove me to the regional hospital, but I did not get proper care. When my mom took me to Kyzylorda city hospital, she was told by the doctor: “if you have taken him here earlier, it would be possible to save his arms, but now the time has gone”. I remember how I opened my eyes twice: the first time was in the regional hospital, I saw my charred arms and tied to beat the bed with my right hand, but I did not feel my left arm, the second time it was on the way to Kyzylorda hospital. I was in coma for two years and all this time my mom was near me, she did not lose hope for my recovery.

When I have been in coma, I had a dream: I was surrounded with white emptiness, I was sitting on the stone, and near me there is an aksakal. I talked with him. The only thing that I remember was that he encouraged me, he said: “you are too young, don`t give up, you have a bright future, your family will be proud of you”. After these words my life has totally changed: I have recovered and lived a simple life. After that my family moved to Almaty and I got to correctional boarding school #2. I combined study and swimming there. Thanks to persistent work I became a member of Kazakhstan team. I became a triple champion of Kazakhstan in swimming; in 2009 I won the second place on Paralympics in Tokyo; in 2013 I won the third place on the Open Championship in table tennis, which took place in Jordan, also in 2013 took the third place on Asian Paralympics on table tennis in Malaysia. Later I had the problems with health because of swimming – I don`t wear glasses during the competition, and chlorinated water caused my sight worsen. Also I had some problems with cardiovascular system, and gradually I moved from swimming to table tennis.

In 2006-2010 I was engaged in swimming, and since 2007 I am engaged in tennis. I started to play tennis a school – my schoolmates often left lessons to play tennis, and I was gradually involved in it. Earlier we filled points; therefore I was familiar with a tennis racket. When I became a member of a national team, it was really hard time, but I decided to move only forward. After two months I have already participated in Republican championship, which was held in Karaganda city. It was the most shameful moment in my life – out of 14 sportsmen I was on the 14^th place. After that I trained hard for a year and on Republic championship in Pavlodar and Shymkent I won the 1^st place. Then I joined the Paralympic national team, and visited Jordan, Malaysia. Later there had to be a trip to London, but because of the difficulties with registration of visa I could not go there.

My last trip was to Korea, Inchon city. The most pleasant impression was that people there are very sympathetic and open. Inchon is the clean, dynamically developing city, which is situated in half an hour from Seoul. The most ridiculous was the communication with Korean sportsmen – we laughed a lot, trying to say the words and to understand each other. During the trip volunteers helped us. They were students from Kazakhstan, who know Russian and Kazakh languages.

My goal is to finish my education and start a trainer`s work to help rural youth to master this sport. Now my goals are only plans and dreams, time will show us the reality. Except sports I am interested in art, I was involved in singing at boarding school. I dream to make a solo concert. When I was in Almaty I printed 500 tickets. My mom and all my relatives and friends organized my concert. I am indebted to my mom for everything, she was near my in difficult moments, she did not lose hope and she helped me to get on feet, therefore from earned 100 000 tenge, I gave her more than a half. That is how I managed to make a concert in native village.

In my life my mom and family are on the first place, also I manage to communicate with my friends and schoolmates. I am the first child in the family, so I feel a responsibility for my family. For unclear reasons my father left our family and went to another five years ago. Frankly speaking, I do not have an anger or offense on him. In my memory he will remain that kind and understanding father whom I knew in my childhood. There were a lot of changes since I went to college, when I won Foundation`s scholarship. I have a lot of friends on whom I can rely, also I have a girlfriend. People, who surround me, don`t perceive me as a defective man, I don`t feel pity and humiliating sympathy. I believe that people appreciate my personality and communicate with me on equals, because I never felt myself limited or unhappy. In the nearest future our national team will go to Brazil. In life my achievements support me, creativity rescues me in moments of bad mood, through versifications I get rid of any negative emotions. Also I have a dream to develop in musical sphere. My brother reads rap, and I want to develop my musical skills, combine our creativity and let out a single.

In year 2013 I was lucky to become a scholar of Yerzhan Tatishev`s Foundation., which gave me a great opportunity to study in the best business university in Kazakhstan – Almaty Management University. Now I am the second year student with “Finance” specialization.

In September, 2014 I got a chance to study for a one semester in France by the exchange program. I studied in one of the best business schools in France – IESEG School of Management in Lille city. It was the first time when I was so far from home for a long time. First days my parents worried a lot that the next 4 months we will not see each other, but I worried that the next 4 months I will have to live alone. Actually, it was not very hard to live there, because there were about 10 Kazakhstan citizens, and Lekerov Mukhtar, the Foundation scholar year 2012, was one of them. Therefore the semester was not as hard as I expected, but, of course, not without difficulties.

First of all, France impressed me with its educational system and methods of study. I understood one important thing – French people are practicians. Almost all subjects were followed by projects, which required analyzing and working with reports of different companies. Actually, such methods helped perfectly to understand the material, which we studied on lectures.  In France teachers stress the attention on group projects, that is why I got a huge experience in group projects with representatives from France, China, India, and Italy. The assessment score generally depended on final exam, midterm and class participation. The last point was not very important in Kazakhstan. I also got an experience in preparation of presentations: minimum of text, more statistics and explanations. I studied different subjects, which helped me to understand and find a common language with various cultures, gave me an opportunity to think widely. I am sure that now I will use these skills in international business.

Volunteering in France is on the high level, therefore me and Mukhtar tried to participate in various events. Firstly, I would like to emphasize that almost on all events we tried to tell about Kazakhstan. Thus, we presented Kazakhstan on International Gala Night 2014 in our University. We were also involved in project, where volunteers from different countries attended schools and helped pupils with English and told about their own country and culture.

To conclude, I would like to recommend our dear scholars year 2014 and all future generations to go abroad by exchange programs. This trip has totally changed my outlook on life. Also I would like to express my gratitude to Yerzhan Tatishev`s Foundation and Almaty Management University for giving me such opportunity.
