On July 4 and 5, 2017, in Almaty Management University hosted a 2-qualifying round of the “BesTіrek” Program of Yerzhan Tatishev Foundation among graduates of schools and colleges. This year, this program is being implemented in a new quality and under the name “BesTіrek” together with the partner university AlmaU. Earlier, grantees of the Fund had the opportunity to obtain a bachelor’s degree and be implemented in financial and economic professions. Now the priority of the Program is the training of young entrepreneurs with leadership qualities that will grow and develop in entrepreneurship and will subsequently affect positive changes in the country’s economy.

The uniqueness and indisputable advantage of the updated Program is the opportunity to develop your startup at the university stage, with the support of teachers and mentors working in business companies. In addition to the educational grant, scholarship holders will receive grants to create their own business projects and will have the chance to visit a summer camp at one of the best colleges in the USA, practicing teaching methods in practice, Babson College. The new name of the Program, “BesTirek” is in tune with the English phrase best trek – the best way, and translated from Kazakh means five pillars on which the idea of ​​learning in practice is built: grants from the Fund, training at the University, help from tutors, exchange of experience with Babson College, scholarship potential. The Fund sincerely hopes that this qualitative change will soon bear fruit.

The selection consists of three stages: technical evaluation of competitive applications, assessment of the potential of applicants with their direct participation and interviews. Competitive applications submitted for the 1st qualifying round were considered by the Selection Committee on such indicators as: academic performance, social activity, achievements in substantive competitions, financial situation and the applicant’s goals matching the program priorities. Of the total number of contestants, 18 guys and 17 girls were selected for the second stage of selection. Children from the cities of Aktobe, Almaty, Astana, Karaganda, Zhanaozen, Zaysan, Kyzylorda, Oskemen, Petropavlovsk, Semey, Taraz, Shymkent, as well as from Almaty and Zhambyl regions came to measure their strength and prove that they are worthy of the title of Foundation scholars. Among them were graduates of Kazakh-Turkish lyceums and colleges, lyceums, gymnasiums, colleges, schools and NIS.

Before the qualifying round, the President of AlmaU Kozhakhmetov Asylbek Bazarbaevich and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Fund Tatishev Erkin Nureldaemovich made welcome speeches. Mr. Kozhakhmetov thanked the Fund for fruitful cooperation and wished the participants good luck, he also said that in addition to the Foundation’s grants, the University can allocate up to 5 grants to those students who will show excellent results but will not be on the list of finalists for Foundation grants. During the 2nd round, the contestants worked in groups of 5-6 people. Within two days, each group had to develop a project for the Fund on the basis of information received about it. Each participant sought to show their best qualities, make the best use of skills and contribute to group work. The fruits of the hard work of all six groups were presented to the members of the Selection Panel. Also, as part of the 2-qualifying round, an interview was conducted with some participants in the competition.
