April 22, 2017 it was held a memorial Day dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the birth of Yerzhan Tatishev at the school-Lyceum №16 named after Yuri Gagarin. The school is located in the city of Kentau in the South Kazakhstan region, where Yerzhan Nureldaemovich was born and grew up. His Alma mater remembers him as a diligent, inquisitive and attentive student. This school annually helds sports, intellectual and creative competitions among the students.

By tradition, students of senior parallels held a tournament on Yerzhan Nureldaemovich’s favorite sports hobby, volleyball. For several days, the guys fought for the Yerzhan Tatishev Cup. Three prize places went to the teams of 10 “A” class (1st place), the national team 11 “A” and 11 “B” (2nd place) and the national team to the 9th “A”, “B” and “C” classes (3- a place). In a chess tournament, students of both senior and junior classes could measure their strength. So the youngest participant in the tournament, a student of the 3rd “b” class, Ayatov Kanagat took 3rd place, the 2nd place went to his opponent, the student of 11th “A”, Tsoi Dmitry, and the winner in this intellectual sport was taken by the pupil of 10th “A” class , Yunal Alishan.

Among the students of the school there were competitions for the best essay on the topic “Being a human on earth.” In their essays, the guys shared their thoughts about eternal human values: decency, empathy, kindness, and the first place was awarded to a student of 10 “A” class, Mamekov Shakhrukh. In his essay, Shahrukh writes about a man who is an example of humanity for him, his father, who spent most of his life at the operating table, saving the lives of many people. The second and third places in the competition were occupied by Yen Libertina, 9 “A” class and Leontyev Elizabeth, 11 “B” class. The winners of the presentation contest “Son of the Great Steppe” were pupils of 10 “A” class, Abdrakhmanov Linar, Maxim Morozov, Abdullaeva Dilnosa. The competition of readers “And I just live …” brought together all lovers of poetry. Poems by Bakir Tazhibaev, Sergey Yesenin, Rudyard Kipling, Robi, Marina Tsvetaeva, Evgeny Yevtushenko, Vladimir Vysotsky sounded. The winners were 9th grade students: Oleg Alekseev, Dilyafruz Azbaeva and Ramis Gayazov.

Students also showed their horizons and intellectual baggage in the “Intelligent Casino” quiz. The teams “Friends” and “Born to Win” solved logical tasks and answered questions from different fields of knowledge. The guys pleased the audience with music and dance quiz numbers. The festive event ended with the presentation of letters to the winners of all competitions. The fund is trying to support the school, helping it to improve the material and technical base. This year the school was presented with jalousie for the assembly hall.
